The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided some guidelines on how to effectively prevent the spread of the virus and contain it as sooner as we can. In response to the situation, the American Red Cross has reiterated the guidelines with current data. All of the health departments all around the globe have responded to the situation immediately after the World Health Organization has declared the situation to be pandemic.
How does the Virus Spread?
The virus can be spread from person to person, or person to a group of people. This means that the virus can transfer through direct skin contact or between people with close contact with one another about six feet through droplets from a person who coughs or sneezes within the six-feet proximity. The droplets can be inhaled into the lungs causing the virus to stay and propagate in the body of the new host. However, the virus can also spread through indirect contact. The CDC as well as the WHO reported that the virus is able to reach a new host if the person has touched a surface that an infected person also has been able to make contact with. The uninfected person might get the virus from the surface and transfer it to their body by touching their mouth, nose, and wound. Lastly, the virus can be spread from individuals who show no signs of symptoms.
What Can I do to Avoid the Virus?
The CDC has provided effective steps in order to avoid the virus and keep your body healthy, which are the following:
1.Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes especially with unwashed hands.
2.Especially after going out in a public place, or somewhere not in your vicinity, wash your hands with soap and water for at least half a minute. Likewise, when you sneeze, blow your nose, or cough, wash your hands with the same procedure and duration to avoid contaminating others and surfaces even if you think you do not have the virus. People show no signs of COVID-19 can be asymptomatic for a couple of days before leveling up on the critical stage.
3.When you go out in the public, cover your mouth, nose, and eyes (if possible) by using face masks or cloth face. Note: do not put a face mask on individuals who have difficulty in breathing or children under two years old.
4.Avoid close contact with people especially when you are in public, and practice social distancing by keeping at least six feet away from the other people.
5.Even in your house, always keep the habit to regularly clean and disinfect high touched surfaces such as doorknobs, tables, handles, light switches, phones, desks, computers, sinks, keyboards, toilets, countertops, faucets, and even your cellphone.
6.Cover your face with a disposable tissue when you sneeze or cough, and appropriately throw it away in the trash bin. If you do not have a tissue, sneeze or cough on your sleeve on the elbow, and never on your hands.
The COVID-19 virus is still spreading all around the globe, and there is a need for a full cooperation in order to control the spread and minimize it, if not fully stop the proliferation of the virus and the cases of COVID-19.
